At this year's conference of the International Association of University Professors of English (IAUPE) which takes place in Rome July 10 through 15, 2023, Heike Paul is giving a talk (on Thursday, July 13) in a section on "Early American Literatures." The talk is titled "1619 and African American Literatures" and looks at the landing of the first Africans in America in 1619 and how this is referenced and/or used as a central theme in African American poetry.
