Interview | Washington Post Article on Berlin subway stop "Onkel Tom's Hütte" | 27.11.22

Heike Paul was interviewed for an article by Meena Venkataramanan in the Washington Post, titled "A Berlin subway stop is called 'Uncle Tom's Cabin.' Some Black Germans want change." In the article, Venkataramanan gives a portrait of how the issue of problematic place names is dealt with in Germany - ranging from the wish to maintain those names in an effort of continued glorification of the past, an aversion to change for practical reasons, and, on the other hand, a growing awareness and activism to address these issues.
